How to Choose the
Right Production Resource
Our Competition: Today, everybody with a pulse produces TV, radio, video and animation. (And judging from some of the work appearing on air and online lately, even people without a pulse are producing TV, radio, video and animation these days.) So, to help you avoid the pitfalls, here’s a synopsis of our competition.
Ad Agencies
Positives: An easy sell to the boss. Heck, they’re an ad agency—they must know the best ways to create and produce on-air and online ads, right?
Negatives: As generalists, they don’t necessarily specialize in writing and producing TV, radio, video and online content. Plus they charge more than we do, and take longer to do the work.
Production Companies
Positives: Traditionally hail from the equipment or facilities end of the business. So they’re often more about lenses, lights and edit systems than about effective communication.
Negatives: Normally inexperienced in advertising strategy, scripting, graphics, animation and client service—and seldom look for ways to economize your project or repurpose elements.
Shooters/Editors
Positives: The cheap choice. Typically a one-man band who shoots and edits — and that’s about it.
Negatives: You, as the client, in exchange for paying the shooter/editor less than a production company or an ad agency would charge, will need to handle the often-formidable logistics of creative and production yourself. Get ready for a great big time suck.
In-House Video Dude
Positives: He’s right down the hall, has a camera and can show up at an event or training session on a moment’s notice.
Negatives: Fine for internal communication videos and grabbing social media clips at live events. Not nearly as good at outward-facing productions demanding higher production values and brand enhancement.
Beard Boy Productions
Positives: As Orange County’s original TV, radio, video and animation production agency, we strategize, concept, write and produce effective, affordable, fun on-air and online advertising. From concept to finish—or any point in between. Working alongside or apart from your other resources. On a project basis. With no retainers. For a fraction of the price ad agencies charge.
Negatives: We haven’t yet worked together. So let’s turn that negative into a positive. Contact us today.
